A community that creates meaning.

A state school for leadership in the Baka neighbourhood of Jerusalem. An educational community where children, families and staff learn, create and grow together.

A Lego room the children built themselves. A kitchen where they learn far more than cooking. Elections the students run, an olive harvest in the park, and a schoolyard that becomes a meeting place for a whole neighbourhood.

So what makes Geulim different?

There are many ways to get to know a school. You can read about the curriculum, visit the classrooms and meet the staff. But a large part of the Geulim story lives in what happens between all of those. In the friendships that form, in the children’s ideas, in the meeting between different families, and in the chance to learn in ways that do not always begin with a book and a notebook.

A place for everyone

A school that is an educational community. Children, families and staff meet every day, and what is done together carries more meaning.

Learning in other ways too

Alongside classroom learning there are experiences in robotics, enquiry, making, technology and projects that bring different subjects together.

Parent community

Geulim, far more than a school. A community you grow up in together

In the heart of the Baka neighbourhood of Jerusalem, at 3 Gad Street, stands Geulim, a state primary school for grades 1 to 6 that has been an inseparable part of the neighbourhood and the community for many years.

At Geulim we believe a school is far more than a place where people study. It is a place where connections form, friendships are built and a sense of belonging grows. The children, the families and the teaching staff together create a strong and varied community, in which everyone has a place, a voice and the ability to make a difference.

Here learning does not stop at the classroom door. It combines enquiry, technology, making and hands-on experience, and it happens in the kitchen, in the yard, in the park and across Jerusalem. We encourage children to ask, to discover, to try things out and to learn through curiosity and doing.

Leadership at Geulim begins in the small things of everyday life. In being able to raise an idea, take initiative, work together and turn a thought into action. The children help shape their own surroundings, start projects such as the Lego room they built themselves, take responsibility for the shared space and learn that everyone has the ability to bring about change.

Because at Geulim we do not only teach children about the world. We give them a place to be part of it, to influence it and to grow together.

Learning that carries on beyond the classroom

Learning at Geulim takes many forms. Sometimes it happens in front of a computer, sometimes around a kitchen table, sometimes in building a robot and sometimes on a walk to the park. Alongside the school subjects, children experiment, investigate, create and discover new interests.

What is happening here?

Children who do not only take part but also create, staff who believe in learning differently, and parents who choose to be part of what happens.

The people who lead Geulim

Geuli · the parent community

The Geulim parent community is an important part of the life around the school. It connects families, creates chances to meet, starts activities and opens the school gates to the neighbourhood too.

The community works from a simple idea: a school is also the place where connections form between people who live alongside one another.

Charter

The Attention Charter

A commitment by parents at Geulim

We, parents at Geulim School, choose to give our children a childhood of full presence, of free play, of real conversation, of the kind of boredom that gives rise to imagination. A shared choice, made out of love.

Our commitment

  • We will choose a basic phone until the end of primary school
  • We will prefer a basic phone for staying in touch
  • We will limit shared screen time at home and talk through the dilemmas
  • We will back each other up when the children say “but everyone has one”
  • We will set a personal example in how we use screens

Why now

These are the years when children are still building face-to-face relationships, learning to be bored and developing imagination. When we all commit together, every child feels they have support behind them.

Would you like to get to know Geulim?

Choosing a school begins with getting to know it. The place, the people and what happens there every day. We invite families from Baka, Arnona and the surrounding area to get to know Geulim, to follow what we do and to join our open community events.
